Filipino American Children’s Book Illustrator Pamela Goodman
Pamela Goodman
Hello, I’m a children’s book illustrator living near Portland, OR. I have been making art since I was a little kid. I grew up surrounded by piles of books from the library. I loved being immersed in the worlds of fairy tales, Beatrix Potter, Frog and Toad, and the Little House series to name a few. I loved how the pictures could tell so much of the story, and transport you to another time and place.
My artwork is created with watercolors, ink, and colored pencils on watercolor paper, and illustration board. I get inspiration from things around me in everyday life like people watching, things in my garden, and going on walks. I have a soft spot for dark-haired girls of mixed ethnicity (I’m Filipino/ Irish/ Slovenian) and corgi puppies! I love what I do, and feel so thankful to be able to make art for a living.
When not illustrating I’m busy as a full time mom to a beautiful daughter, hanging out with my film-maker husband and our corgi mix dog, Buko, or outside working in my garden.
“Buko” – The Tagalog word for a young coconut (it’s delicious!)
