4 Movies about Travel and Self-Discovery

I love a good movie that follows a character’s search for self-identity or discovery. Stories that explore themes centered around “finding oneself” are empowering and inspiring because it shows us that we are never quite finished with learning something new about ourselves. There is always something more to discover!

For some inspiration on ways that finding your authentic self can change your life, be sure to watch these four movies about travel and self-discovery:

Eat Pray Love

After a divorce and failed relationships, a woman travels to Italy, India, and Indonesia to find herself. Based on the memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Queen

A young woman from Delhi left by her fiance just before their wedding decides to go on her honeymoon alone, making her own adventures, new friends, and finding herself along the way. This is a definitely girl power movie!

Kite Runner

A man returns to his homeland in Afghanistan to help the son of an old friend. Along his journey, he learns to come to terms with his childhood and his family’s past. Based on the book by Khaled Hosseini.

The Way

Awesome movie that takes place at the famous pilgrimage walk, El Camino de Santiago. A father learns that his son had recently died on the Camino and goes to pick up his body. But instead of returning home, he decides to finish the pilgrimage in place of his son.

These four movies about travel and self-discovery only touch the surface. There are plenty more movies about finding yourself out there! What are some of your favorite ones? Please share your recommendations in the comments!
